Plodding, heavy handed prose, a predictable plot, a boring main character, and the name of the main character is off putting. I kept waiting for the author to do something with it (he's called his main character Shakespeare, DO SOMETHING WITH IT) but he never ever did. No witty wink, no allusion, no explanation, nothing. Why pick a name like that and then not use it? Plus, the plot was very predictable and the secondary characters were caricatures. All in all, a waste of time, read S.J. Parris instead.
